L. Piazzo was born in Rome, Dec. 1964. He received the "Laurea" degree (cum laude) in Electronic
Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1991. From 1992 to 1995 he carried out his
PhD program in "Information and Communication Engineering", working on speech coding and channel coding.
From 1994 to 1996 he was with "Space Engineering", working on spectral analysis and
SAR images processing. From 1997 he is assistant professor at the university of Rome
"La Sapienza". In 1997-1998, in the framework of the ACTS project MEDIAN, he was interested
in OFDM system synchronisation and phase noise. In 1999, in the framework of a
EU-TMR grant, he was with the dept. of ECS of the University of Southampton, UK, working
on Turbo TCM over OFDM and adaptive OFDM systems. In 2000-2005 he worked on UWB transmission
in the framework of the IST project WHYLESS.COM, analysing the impact of MUI, NBI and ISI.
In ntr2004-2009, as a consultant for the IFSI-INAF, he contributed to the development of the On Board
Software for the HiFi instrument of the Herschel satellite. Since 2008 he is working on infrared
image processing within the framework of several ASI and Sapienza projects, cooperating with IAPS-INAF,
ASDC-ASI and ESAC-ESA. He was also interested in Multi-Hop, ad-hoc and optical networks, SAR, ECG and GPS signal processing.
